It was another exciting week in sixth grade! The class had their first tech talk with Miss Miller. They learned about digital citizenship and appropriate behaviors online. Students were given a technology pledge to be signed by a parent and returned by Monday. The class will not be allowed to use technology at school until the form comes back.
Math: Sixth graders continued their study of geometry in math class this week. They used tools such as tracer paper and technology to find the area of parallelograms. To end the week the class began to explore the area of triangles.
Writing: In writing, the class worked on creating personal narrative stories. Students wrote about small moments where they learned something new. A goal was to bring readers into the story and make them experience the same emotions/feel as though they were there.
Reading: In reading, sixth graders incorporated science by reading an article about hurricanes on Achieve3000. They learned new vocabulary words to use when speaking and writing. From there, the class discussed written responses, generated a list of necessary components and creating their own. Finally, students used the mentor text Home of the Brave to think critically and read with alertness.
Social Studies: Students worked in groups to research a continent and teach their findings to the class.
