Sixth graders had a very busy week! In math, they wrapped up a unit on ratios, rates, and percentages. Students applied their knowledge to solving real world problems and reviewed all concepts studied. In reading, the class continued to refine strategies for finding the main idea of a nonfiction text. Specifically, we close read an article from Time for Kids and thought critically about the central concept and details that supported it. Next, sixth grade writers were very excited to start their work with Ancient Greece/Rome research projects. Each student took an individual topic and wrote specific questions used to guide research. From there, the class discussed how to read a text to find information and take detailed notes. Finally, sixth graders had another wonderful Skype session with Miss Rachel from Ford’s Theatre. She taught them more about using a skill called tableau as a performance medium. Miss Rachel was very impressed with the creativity of our students in acting out scenes such as New York City and the Battle of Gettysburg.
